So, we just had 2 games that were affected by delays of weather at least this season, with both scheduled to resume at a later date. The issue is these games have gone on for more then 5 innings, which is the standard rule for a game to be called official.
The first game is the Colorado Rockies and the San Francisco Giants. That game just concluded this past week after a 3 month layoff due to weather. I'm cool with this game being like that because there was no clear winner when the game was called, with the score tied at 2.
The next game is one I have a problem with, and it's the Kansas City Royals vs the Cleveland Indians game. In this case l, the road team was ahead in the 10th inning. Hello! Remember Rule 4.10 anyone? If a game lasts more than 5 innings, then it's considered official! I know the Royals are fighting for a playoff spot for the 1st time in 28 years, but still should this game be called already?
And another thing. What's up with the 5-6 hours+ delays anyway? If it starts raining or snowing during a game, then all the umpires need to do is have a little meeting, probably around a TV with the weather report, and decide whether the game should continue based on what the report says, not let all those fans sitting on the outer seats get drenched! If your a fan, then why would you sit through something like that? Wouldn't you rather be at your nice, dry home?
One last thing. When, during play, the pitcher catches the ball from the catcher after a ball/strike, the pitcher has a certain amount of seconds to pitch the next pitch! What gets me is that umpires seem to forget that rule and allow the pitcher as much time as he wants to try and throw it. I think the umpires should enforce that pitching time limit rule! This way, the games won't take 3 or more hours long, and everyone would enjoy it.
That's what I think! What are your thoughts on these subjects?
